Description: A group of Sorority girls are spending Christmas at their sorority house. The girls have been receiving prank phones calls from an unknown guy for quite a while but his calls are getting longer and more creepier. When one of the sorority girls disappears (Claire), the girls start worrying that the calls have escalated into murder.
Gore/Violence: Not too much gore in this movie. There is blood in the movie, but not much.
Body Count: The body count is not that high in this movie. The movie is more about the creepy phone calls and seeing what the killer sees.
Nudity & Sexuality: No nudity.
Death Scenes: The death scenes were not creative but one death scene will stick in your head for a very long time. The death scene I am talking about involves Claire. She is suffocated with a clear plastic bag and is placed in a rocking chair up in the attic. The image of Claire in the rocking chair is a very disturbing image and it is shown throughout the movie.
Acting/Storyline: When this movie was released it had a lot of originality to it. The movie never shows the killer whole face and it adds to the whole experience of the movie. This movie started a lot of trends that are still seen today. Black Christmas started the whole "The calls are coming from inside the house" thing, which was later used in When a Stranger Calls. Also, Black Christmas used the killer's point of view to show what the killer was doing, which Halloween used a few years later and made famous.
The storyline of the movie was original when it was released but would be played out if it was released today. Even after all these years, I found that the storyline of the movie still held up today. The main events that stand out in the movie involves the prank calls from the killer, plus the killer's point of view when he is climbing into the house and walking around the house stalking the girls. There are a lot of little things that stand out that makes this movie worth watching. One great thing is Billy is never shown, plus the phone calls get creepier, and the twist ending is an added touch to the whole movie.
The acting was done well in the movie by all the cast, but you can tell it was made in the 70s cause it had the 70s stink all over it.
Final Rating: DO NOT BASED THIS MOVIE ON THE REMAKE!!!!. Sorry for that but I have to warn everyone that the remake has nothing to do with the original. There is some bits and pieces from the original but its a totally different movie.
Black Christmas is differently worth watching. There have been times I've seen pieces of the movie on the television but it didn't catch my interest, but now I am glad that I took the time to watch it. A lot of ideas in this movie became standard in the horror genre, plus the movie is just plain good.
