Description: Kelly receives a mysterious rag doll for her 6th birthday. Over time she learns this doll has the power to grant wishes, but often with horrific consequences. After being imprisoned for years in a mental hospital, she has learned to master the unpredictable art of “wish making” with deadly precision. (Description from Steel Web Studios).
Gore/Violence: This is a short story and there is not too much gore in the movie. The only gory part of the movie is when a goth girl cuts off her finger for a ritual she is performing for Mr. Buttons. The movie actually shows the whole process of the finger cutting which was kind of gross, yet very cool.
Body Count: For a 23 minute film, the short story had a good amount of deaths in it. Throughout the whole story around 4 people kicked the bucket.
Nudity & Sexuality: Nope, no nudity in this one which is surprising since these are the guys who made Slaughter Disc.
Death Scenes: There are no stabbings or anything like that, the whole movie is based around wishes and how Mr. Buttons grants them, so the deaths scenes in the movie are not really worth talking about.
Acting/Storyline: The storyline was pretty surprising to me. I was expecting to pop in this movie and see a killer doll running around chopping people's heads off, instead I saw something a lot more clever. The movie is about girl who cursed a doll to take revenge on her ex-lover. The clever part is that the doll only grants wishes, but the wishes usually end up with deadly consequences. The movie focuses on the consequence of a simple wish that any one of us can make and shows us how deadly that wish can turn out. This movie expresses that point very well and creates a very entertaining story.
Some of the acting in the movie seemed really over the top to me which kind of drew me out the story a bit. One person that does stand out in the movie is the actress that played Kelly as an adult, I thought she did a really good job.
Final Rating: Mr. Buttons is a very entertaining and clever short story that will leave you satisfied. This movie is worth picking up and it will be released on Tales from the Carnal Morgue: Volume 1 which will contain other films by Steel Web Studios.
