The X-Files: The Movie

1998 - Rated: PG-13
Runtime: 121 Minutes

Studio: 20th Century Fox

Director: Rob Bowman

Writer(s): Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz

Staring: Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny, William B. Davis, John Neville, Mitch Pileggi

Description: After a terrorist bombing destroys a building in Dallas, Texas, Agents Mulder and Scully get a tip that the bombing was initiated by their own Government and decide to investigate. While investigating the agents stumble across information that an alien plague is being used by our government to perform tests on humans and to create a vaccine for the plague. Using this information, the agents follow the trail with hopes that it will lead to proof that alien life does exist.

Gore/Violence: No, there is not much gore in this movie. There is some blood in the movie, and some of the bodies are sticky and gross.

Body Count: The body count is pretty good. Around 5 people meet their demise in the movie.

Nudity & Sexuality: Nope, there is no nudity in this movie at all. Scully is naked at the end of the movie, but it doesn't show anything which is very unfortunate.

Death Scenes: There is nothing special about the death scenes. A federal agent is blown up, a limo driver is shot, the Well Manicured Man is blown up, one guy is mauled to death by an alien organism, and one guy gets his life sucked out of him by an alien that hasn't gestated yet.

Acting/Storyline: The storyline is one that has been the main focus of the series for years. The storyline is based on the "Black Oil" from the series, only this time it has mutated. Now once a person is infected with the alien organism, the alien lives inside the person feeding off his/her bones and tissue until its ready to gestate. Once it gestates the alien is free to roam the earth, in the movie its refer to as the "plague that will end all plagues". The storyline in the movie is great, its interesting and moves the main storyline of the series forward.

Anyone one who isn't a fan of the series doesn't need to know the past episodes to watch this movie. This movie does an excellent job of introducing the characters and what their purpose is in the movie. Even if you haven't watched an episode, this movie is written with that in mind and anyone shouldn't feel lost when watching this movie.

The acting in the movie is what you expect from the cast of the X-files, its great. There are no complaints in this department at all.

Final Rating: If you are a X-files fan (like me), then this movie is a very good "long episode", or if you are not a fan, this movie is still a very good stand alone movie. The production values are very high, great acting, great storyline, everything you want in a good movie is here. There are some plot holes in the movie, especially at the end, but it doesn't take away from the movie.

I read there are talks of a second movie being made, I guess there are some legal issue, lets all pray that it gets resolved and the movie starts filming ASAP.

Shustaines gives this movie 4/5 severed heads!
