Rest Stop

2006 - Rated: R
Runtime: 80 Minutes

Studio: Warner Home Video

Director: John Shiban

Writer(s): John Shiban

Staring: Jaimie Alexander, Joey Mendicino, Deanna Russo, Diane Salinger, Michael Childers

Description: An aspiring actress Nicole and her boyfriend Jess take off to Hollywood. While on the road trip, they decide to take a shortcut and pull into a rest stop for a quick washroom break. When Jess returns from the bathroom, she notices that Jess has been abducted. Now Jess is in a fight for her life against a maniac who will not let her leave the rest stop alive.

Gore/Violence: The movie did have some gory parts in it. One part that definitely stands out is the scene where Nicole's finger is bitten off by the maniac. That scene was very disgusting and awesome at the same time. I wish I can rate the movie on that scene alone, it might get a better review.

Body Count: Body count is not that high in the movie. There is only a couple death scenes in the movie. Which is too bad, This movie would have been better with a lot more death scenes.

Nudity & Sexuality: There might have been a boobie in it. For some reason I am blank on that aspect of the movie. If there was nudity in it then if had to be minimal or I would have remembered it.

Death Scenes: The death scenes that were there were not that good. There is nothing worth remembering about the death scenes. I would like to stress that I did not see the unrated version, I can only hope that the death scenes are way better in the unrated version.

Acting/Storyline: The storyline in the movie is one that we have heard a million times before. A couple on a trip takes a shortcut, stop at a place on this shortcut, now there lives are in danger, yup, I heard it before. There is nothing wrong with using played out story lines as long as you make the movie entertaining. The problem with this movie is that its a slasher film with high production values, stupid decisions by the main character but without the body count. When this film first started I thought I was in for a good movie until I started see the ridiculous decision the main character was making. The director wanted to make a serious movie but you can't have a serious movie that is plagued with stupidity. This movie would have been better as a slasher film, all they had to do is raise the body count and this movie might have been entertaining, but right now I can not take this movie seriously.

The acting was pretty good in the movie, I can't really blame the cast for the writing. I think the cast did a good job portraying the character

Final Rating: This movie had great potential at the beginning but just got ridiculous by the middle of it. Its a shame cause this movie did have some creepy, gory scenes but its not worth buying this movie. My advice is to wait till you can catch it on the movie channels.
