The Omen

June 6, 2006 (06/06/06) - Rated: 14A / G
Runtime: 110 Minutes

Studio: 20th Century Fox

Director: John Moore

Writer(s): David Seltzer

Staring: Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick, David Thewlis, Pete Postlethwaite

Description: A remake of a 1976 classic. A young boy named Damien is adopted by an American diplomat and his wife at birth. Unknown to them, the child is actually the Anti-Christ, until strange occurrences reveal that there is something terribly wrong with Damien.

Gore/Violence: Compared to the original this movie had a LOT more gore in it. The movie had an above average amount of violence in it as Damien, and is protectors, destroy anyone in their way.

Body Count: Same as the original, a relatively high body count as people in his way get killed.

Nudity & Sexuality: Nope.

Death Scenes: The death scenes were a lot more gory and elaborate that the original. The overall outcomes were the same for most of the deaths, but the actual death scenes were filled with little extras that made the deaths a little bit better. For the death of the priest, in the original he was just impaled with a metal rod. In this movie he was impaled right through the front of the chest, and had glass shards imbedded into his face. A lot more gory then the original. They also showed the things that led up to the death, just like a Final Destination death scene. Overall I preferred these death scenes to the original.

Acting/Storyline: The acting in this movie was great, but I did not like this Damien over the original. The original seemed more "evil" to me. This one was a tad bit annoying. The story line, just like the original was fantastic. I loved this story line.

Final Rating: This move was pretty good, but the original was still better. They could not have improved much over the original movie with the exception of the death scenes. (But that is mainly to the lack of technology to do so back then). One thing I couldn't stand was that they took out the chanting they done in the original. The chant "Sanguis bebimus, corpus edimus" (Latin, "We drink the blood, we eat the flesh"), was the best part of the movie in the first Omen. The only time I heard that in the remake was during the credits! Overall I think the enhanced death scenes makeup for the lack of the chant I loved so much, so I'll keep my rating for this movie the same as the original.
