Mad House

2004 - Rated: R
Runtime: 91 Minutes

Studio: Lions Gate

Director: William Butler

Writer(s): William Butler Aaron Strongoni

Staring: Joshua Leonard, Jordan Ladd, Natasha Lyonne, Lance Henriksen, Dendrie Taylor

Description: A psychiatric intern arrives at a mental health facility to finish off his semester and graduate. At first, everything looks normal but he soon finds out that everything is not. He starts seeing a little boy running around the hospital and the more he investigates, the more secrets he starts to discover. There is something very strange going on at that hospital and he might be the reason why.

Gore/Violence: There are a few gory parts in the movie, but nothing over the top.

Body Count: The body count is low in the movie, around 4 people die in the movie.

Nudity & Sexuality: Nope, no nudity in this one, just a bra shot.

Death Scenes: The death scenes in the movie have been done a million times before. One death does stand out in the movie, one of the nurses gets electrocuted and she bites her tongue off. The nurse death scene does make you want to turn away, but its so well done that you can't.

Acting/Storyline: The storyline is has been done to death. It starts off by being a haunted asylum story but there is a twist ending to the movie. The ending is a little bit predictable but it was still entertaining. Also, one other aspect I do like about the movie is the conversation between the psychiatric intern and "Ben" in cell 44. The conversation between the two add an interesting element to the storyline.

The acting is pretty good in the movie. Joshua Leonard, who plays the psychiatric intern, does of good job throughout the movie. I would like to describe more about Joshua role, but it would give away the ending.

Lance Henriksen is also in the movie and he does a good in his role as Dr. Franks who runs the asylum. I've been a fan of Lance Henriksen every since I saw him on the television series Millenium, and he always brings something extra to the movies he is in.

Final Rating: Mad House is a good movie. The movie is directed well, the acting is good and it is interesting. The storyline has been done before, but there are some interesting elements in the movie that will keep you hooked. This movie is definitely worth your time.
