The Blob
Runtime: 86 MinutesStudio: Criterion
Director: Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr.
Writer(s): Kay Linaker, Irving H. Millgate, Theodore Simonson
Staring: Steve McQueen, Aneta Corsaut, Earl Rowe, Olin Howland, Alden Chase
Description: An alien life form comes down to earth in a shooting star and consumes everything in its path. Steve and some friends try to warn the town, but no one will believe them.
Gore/Violence: There really isn't much gore in this movie since it was released in 1958, but the look of the blob on the hand of the man in the beginning looked pretty cool. For the time I bet it was pretty scary, but no so much now. No violence accepts for the blob consuming people. (Not actually shown, only kicking legs and things like that)
Body Count: A couple people die in the movie, not a whole lot.
Nudity & Sexuality: Nope.
Death Scenes: Not impressive. It was released in 1958; so extravagant death scenes were not at the top of their agenda back then.
Acting/Storyline: There is a great storyline as well as some good acting from a few actors in the movie. I really like the storyline of the original blob. It's different from the remake, but it is simple, yet entertaining. As for the acting, Steve McQueen done a great job, but some of the other actors/actresses were not that good.
Final Rating: I really enjoyed this movie. By no means does it scare anyone, but I'm sure it was pretty scary back then. It's an entertaining movie, and if you have seen the remake, why not see the original. It is similar, but very different.
